About Chicks on Sticks

This women's surf club was formed in 1996 by a three friends in Narragansett, Rhode Island, who were looking for other women to surf with and a nurturing environment to learn in. Not only were great bonds formed, but the idea of holding instructional programs for women and girls was born. Since then, the "Chicks" program has grown into a rite of summer in Southern RI. More than 400 women and girls, from 10 to over 60 years old, from all over New England have passed through the program to become ettiquette and safety savvy surfer "Chicks". Our instructor base is broad and has included more than 40 surfer girls & women of all ages over the years. The "Sticks" (aka - the men of Chicks on Sticks) are an integral part of our instructional programs - helping foster our goals by assisting with board lugging, instruction and sharing their years of surfing knowledge with women and girls.

The purposes of the organization is threefold:

  1. To promote surfing at all skill levels for girls and women
  2. To promote education, understanding, and awareness pertaining to the coastal marine environment and related issues in the community
  3. To contribute to the health and well being of girls, women and the environment through monetary donations and volunteer activities.
