Women's Instructional Surfing Program
Newport, Rhode Island
August 15 - 17, 2003
![]() WELCOME! The members of Chicks on Sticks along with the Rhode Island Chapter of Surfrider are THRILLED to offer our instructional program to another group of girls and women this August! Those of you who join us on Newport's First Beach (Easton's Beach) will experience the magic of Mother Ocean, while learning the basic skills and secrets of surfing. Chicks on Sticks volunteers have instructed more than 400 girls and women over the last 7 years. We are proud to say that all of these students have developed a deeper understanding of our precious oceans and shores! Additionally, many have formed new friendships and become avid surfers.
No matter what your skill level - whether you can already stand or don't know a goofy foot from a regular one - you will leave this weekend smiling from the inside out! You'll gain a keen appreciation for the art and sport of surfing, and perhaps find yourself smitten with a new passion? This years instructional program will be held the weekend of August 15-17, 2003. We have changed the schedule around a bit this year to make it more comfortable for you, our students, and our instructors. We will start on Friday evening from 6:30 - 9:00 PM in Save the Bay's conference room on Memorial Drive in Newport with introductions, a preliminary theory and equipment lesson and pizza for eats! Saturday and Sunday's lessons will again be conducted at First Beach (Easton's Beach) in the scenic, bustling town of Newport, RI. The ideal facilities at First Beach will allow us ample room for "sand instruction" and for being in the water. Your price for the weekend includes a years membership to the Surfrider Foundation, the renowned coastal environmental organization whose 60 grass roots chapters across the United States work on a multitude of community issues such as water quality, shoreline access, and coastal erosion. So, if you are ready to start planning for the best weekend of your summer, go to the "registration" page!
